NTUST scholarships

I. The one-year scholarships are offered by NTUST to outstanding students from abroad to complete a Master's or PhD program at Taiwan Tech.

II. Eligibility:

First-time applicants: International students who hold bachelor’s or master’s degrees from universities abroad (including dual-degree program students) applying for admission to our graduate programs as full-time students
Scholarship recipients applying for an extension: Enrolled students may apply for the renewal of the scholarship for their next year of graduate study at the end of their first academic year.
Not eligible are students

who are already receiving other forms of financial aid from NTUST or the R.O.C government (Exceptions to this regulations may be granted to students who receive research stipends or work-study payments or financial aid provided under special agreements signed with NTUST.)
who are concurrently enrolled at NTUST and another university in Taiwan or who engage in full-time paid employment in the R.O.C.

III. Application documents:

First-time applicants must submit an application form, official transcripts of the applicant’s highest university degree, letters of recommendation, a physical examination certificate and an official language proficiency test score (TOEFL or equivalent).
NTUST scholarship recipients applying for an extension of their scholarship must submit the transcript of the previous academic year, a report on or examples of their research achievements, and a recommendation letter from their advisor.

III. NTUST scholarships are financed from the university’s endowment fund and subsidies from the Ministry of Education.

IV. The scholarship quota will be set each year depending on the university’s annual budget.

V. Terms of the Scholarship:

NTUST scholarships are granted for one academic year, and may be extended once to a maximum period of two years for the completion of a master’s program, or twice to a maximum period of three years for the completion of a Ph. D program.
NTUST scholarships may include a one-year waiver of tuition and fees (including credit hour fees).
Value of full-scholarships for master’s programs: Monthly stipends of NT$ 12,000 to be paid after enrollment.
Value of full-scholarships for doctoral students: Monthly stipends of NT$ 18,000 to be paid after enrollment.
Value of partial-scholarships for master’s programs: Monthly stipends of NT$ 9,000 to be paid after enrollment.
Value of partial-scholarships for doctoral programs: Monthly stipends of NT$ 12,500 to be paid after enrollment.

VI. Scholarship payments:

The payment of full or partial monthly stipends will come from two sources, i.e. from the university and from the department or thesis advisor. The scholarship installments may be transferred to the recipient's bank account at different times.

VII. Duration of the Scholarship:

Master’s programs: Maximum 2 years; dual-degree program students, maximum 1 year.
Doctoral programs: Maximum 3 years. For Ph.D. fourth-year students are awarded tuition and fees waiver scholarship for one year upon the recommendation of their advisors.
Fast-track Master to Ph.D. programs (i.e. doctoral students who entered a NTUST Ph.D program after completing the first year of a master's program at NTUST): Maximum 4 years. For the fifth year are awarded tuition and fees waiver scholarship for one year upon the recommendation of their advisors.

VIII. When to apply:

New students should submit the scholarship application with their application for admission to NTUST.
Scholarship recipients should submit the scholarship application to their department or graduate program office before the expiration of their current scholarship, and no later than the scholarship application deadline announced by the university.

IX. Evaluation process:

The International Student Scholarship Committee of the Office of International Affairs will be responsible for the administration of the scholarships.

First-time applicants: The application with all supporting documents will be evaluated by the department or graduate program. The notification of being granted a scholarship or not will come with the Letter of Admission issued by the Office of Academic Affairs.
Application for Extensions: The application with all supporting documents, including a recommendation letter by the supervisor, will be evaluated by the department or graduate program.

X. Cancellation, Suspension or Resumption of Scholarship:
Any of the below situations will result in the cancellation or suspension of the NTUST scholarship leading to the termination of all scholarship payments. All decisions to cancel or suspend scholarships have to be approved by the International Student Scholarship Committee of the Office of International Affairs.

If a scholarship recipient is not recommended for an extension of the scholarship by the department or graduate program.
If a scholarship recipient has not performed the duties (including academic performance) required from a graduate student, the scholarship can be cancelled any time during the scholarship period.
If a scholarship recipient takes Leave of Absence, the scholarship will be suspended during that time. If a student leaves Taiwan for over a month during the semester without taking Leave of Absence, the scholarship will be cancelled and cannot be resumed.
If a scholarship recipient gives up his or her pursuit of study without going through the formal process of withdrawal.
If a new student / a scholarship recipient does not properly complete the enrollment and/or registration process by the announced deadlines.
If a scholarship recipient violates R.O.C. laws or is expelled from the university.
If a scholarship recipient has received one minor demerit or more as punishment for violation of university regulations, the International Student Scholarship Committee will decide on the cancellation of the scholarship.
Scholarship recipients who had had their scholarships cancelled for any of the above or other reasons, may apply to their department for a resumption of their scholarships if the conditions leading to the cancellation of their scholarship were eliminated. If the resumption of the scholarship is approved, the total scholarship duration will not include the time period of the scholarship cancellation. For example, a Ph.D. student who has received a scholarship for two years and then takes one year’s Leave of Absence, can apply for the third year of the scholarship when resuming his/her studies.

XI. Signing an Agreement:

Scholarship recipients have to sign an agreement that they will accept the following regulations: If any of the information or documentation provided on application for admission or on application for financial aid is found to be false or forged, the NTUST scholarship will be immediately cancelled and all payments will be stopped. Any act of fraud or concealment will lead to punishment under the relevant university regulations, and all received scholarship payments have to be returned to NTUST. Eligibility to apply for resumption of a NTUST scholarship or any other financial aid will be lost.
