2022 Taiwan Tech Summer School - Basic Oral Daily Mandarin (Online Courses)

 

Let’s get something new in this summer!

In this summer, the Office of International Affairs in Taiwan Tech offers “Basic Oral Daily Mandarin & Introduction of the Relevant Culture” to the participants worldwide.

If you have limited or none proficiency in Mandarin and eager to learn it or to improve it, you’ve come to the right place!

In this online course, participants will learn Mandarin pronunciation and practice daily communication in basic Mandarin speaking patterns, which are useful when you are in Taiwan or other Mandarin speaking communities. Reading and writing Chinese characters will be practiced only when it is necessary.

Subject: Basic Oral Daily Mandarin & Introduction of the Relevant Culture

Number of participants: 20 

Eligibility:

  • Participants from Taiwan Tech partner universities.
  • International students who are currently enrolled in Taiwan Tech.

Instructor: Lee, Jye, Lecturer in Taiwan Tech Language Center

Course period: August 2nd – 31st, 2022,

Course date & time: Tue., Wed., Thurs., Fri., 3:30-5:20pm, GMT: +8:00, totally 36 hours

Classroom: Online at Google Meet

Tuition Fee: None

Certificate: Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be issued a Certificate of Completion. If you are an enrolled undergraduate student in Taiwan Tech, you could waive the mandatory Chinese course by successful completing this course.

  3. Self-Introduction:

-Personal background information commonly found on a personal data form

  1. The features of Chinese names and their influence on the culture of Chinese societies
  2. How to address strangers of different backgrounds properly

Total of phonetic symbols of Mandarin: 37,

consisting of:

21 consonants, 13 vowels & 3 in between.

This class adopts Pinyin to represent the pronunciation of Mandarin.

Week 2:

August 9th/10th/11th/12th

  1. Buying things
  2. Numbers
  3. Measure words for objects

The various types of stores

  1. Convenient stores
  2. The night markets
  3. Bargaining for prices?

The 5 tons of Mandarin

Week 3:

August 16th/17th/18th/19th

  1. Eating at the student’s restaurants

  1. What is that?

  3. Flavors of the dishes; how does the food taste like?
